The incident took place around 12:20 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8, in Valley Stream at the Green Acres Mall, located at 77 Green Acres Road Road, said the Nassau County Police.
According to detectives, a 911 call was made by a witness who spotted a young child left alone in an unattended parked vehicle, in the parking lot of the mall.
When officers arrived, they found an 8-month-old in the rear seat of the vehicle which was unlocked and running, police said.
Officers then dispatched an ambulance that responded to and evaluated the child who was found to be unharmed, police said.
An investigation by officers determined, Moesha Hamilton-Prince, age 24, of Queens, was responsible for leaving her child unattended and was placed under arrest, police added.
The child was placed into the custody of a family member.
Hamilton-Prince was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and will be arraigned on Wednesday, Feb. 9 in Hempstead.
